HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS CHECKLIST

When a hurricane is approaching, the difference between being ready and being caught off guard comes down to preparation. Review this list and make sure every box is checked before the storm hits.

POWER & LIGHT

Flashlights (one per person)
Battery-powered or rechargeable lanterns
Extra batteries and portable power banks
Solar or hand-crank weather radio
Small battery or USB fan for heat relief

WATER & FILTRATION

Personal water filter or purification tablets
Clean water containers or jugs (1 gallon per person per day)
Backup water collection like a rain barrel

FOOD & COOKING

Non-perishable food (3–5 days minimum)
Manual can opener
Compact stove or safe outdoor cooking method
Waterproof matches or lighter
Lightweight cookware and utensils

SHELTER & PROTECTION

Rain ponchos or waterproof jackets
Emergency blankets or sleeping bags
Tarp or temporary shelter cover
Work gloves for clearing debris
Dust masks or face coverings

TOOLS & SAFETY

Multi-tool or small knife
Compass and local map
Waterproof case for valuables
Rope or paracord
Duct tape and plastic sheeting

FIRST AID & HYGIENE

First-aid kit
Antiseptic, pain relievers, bandages
Personal medications
Hand sanitizer and soap
Trash bags for sanitation

COMMUNICATION & BACKUP POWER

Portable power bank
Car charger adapter
Backup phone or two-way radios

PERSONAL & IMPORTANT ITEMS

Change of clothes and sturdy shoes
ID and important documents in waterproof bag
Cash (small bills)
Whistle for signaling
